To reverse its decline and to prevent further loss and degradation of their wetland habitat, BirdsCaribbean launched the WIWD and Wetlands Conservation program.<\/p>\n<p>Our strategy for this region-wide program has been to produce educational materials on birds and wetlands, and through intensive workshops, train enthusiastic teachers and local partner staff, who in turn, teach children and train others. This \u201cmultiplier effect\u201d has helped us to reach a wide audience and develop a network of local people that care about birds and wetlands and become involved in their conservation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1625 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.birdscaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/WWIWetlands-WorkbookCover-300x450.jpg\" alt=\"Wondrous West Indian Wetlands\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.birdscaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/WWIWetlands-WorkbookCover-300x450.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.birdscaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/WWIWetlands-WorkbookCover-600x900.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.birdscaribbean.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/WWIWetlands-WorkbookCover.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This program also develops Watchable Wildlife Ponds\u2014wetlands equipped with interpretive signs and viewing areas where local people, school groups, and tourists can easily observe whistling-ducks and other wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>A principle product of the program is the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/sh\/bunz5y8h3t05hvn\/AABxCP8-UzEOOG1le3xzHUZpa?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wondrous West Indian Wetlands: Teachers&#8217; Resource Book<\/a><\/em>, a 276-page teacher&#8217;s manual containing comprehensive background information and educational activities relating to the ecology and conservation of Caribbean wetlands.
